"FIND THE GOOD AND PRAISE IT"
I am delighted to introduce to you the first of what will be a daily Historical Moment relating to the Founders and General Presidents of our beloved fratenity and other fraternity and sorority histories as it relates to our organization. The excerpts are taken from my soon to be released 300 page book The Talented Tenth: Biographies of the Founders and 30 General Presidents by Skip Mason (Four G's Press). Feel free to share this to other knowledge seekers. Please forward me email addresses of brothers so that I might add them to the list. If there are burning questions that you would like to see addressed, please email them to me. God bless!
"Jewel Henry Arthur Callis first wife was Alice Ruth Moore Dunbar, the first wife of noted writer Paul Laurence Dunbar (whom she was married to for four years) and a distinguished singer and society matron. Jewel Callis married her in 1911 in Wilmington, Delaware. She was 33, he was 24. Callis and Miss Dunbar remained married for nine months. He was teaching in the Department of English at Wilmington High School where she was also teaching. Alice Moore Dunbar Callis had matriculated at Cornell, Columbia and the University of Pennsylvania. She was the organizer of the Women Suffrage campaign for the mid Atlantic States and the first woman to serve on the State Republican Committee of Delaware. More importantly, she wrote the words to the National Hymn of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority."
FROM THE LIPS OF A JEWEL:
"I wish to urge upon all of the brothers the necessity for a broader bond of brotherhood in the communities where you reside. After allegiance to your God, family and country, let nothing shake your love for the fraternity and its ideas. Let every brother be truly a brother, promote his interest as if it were yours and show to the world that Alpha Phi Alpha stands for more than mere words.
-Jewel Robert Harold Ogle, 1936

With regards to other issues, God is handling those for me. I am reminded that "I am responsible for the effort, God will handle the results."
